Parenting Workshop: Single & Adoptive Parenthood

  • Vineyard Church

Equip courses play an essential part in 'discipleship' here at the Vineyard. The Equip program offers a wide selection of free short courses and workshops, ranging from theological and biblical study to practical training. All Equip programs are designed to empower and encourage you; giving you wisdom, vision and confidence as you respond to God's call.

We are running a series of parenting workshops this summer! These aim to not only equip you with helpful info and ideas, but allow you to exchange experiences, relate what you or others have learned - and more importantly, have a 'night off' and a bit of fun!

Each Tuesday evening will start with a short talk, given by different people within Vineyard, and continue with either a discussion forum or breakout sessions. There’ll also be prayer ministry available at the end of each week.

WEEK 1 -- 6th June --- The No. 1 Key to Parenting
WEEK 2 -- 13th June --- Love Languages
WEEK 3 -- 20th June --- Spiritual Foundations For Your Child: A day by day journey

Treasure Hunt for Men

  • Vineyard Church

Every guy is invited to come and 'live brave' as we venture out onto the streets to pray for those God directs us towards.

We'll begin the day with some bacon rolls at Vineyard before we pray together, asking God to give us 'treasure' directions in who to pray for when we're out & about in the city centre.

You don't have to be an extrovert or a 'prayer warrior' to join in with this day. We'll pair you up with one or two people so you won't be on your own. Just come expectant to see God heal and touch people's hearts and lives.

Let's see what great and wonderful things God does as we pray for His blessing and healing on members of our local community in St Albans.

Am I the only person who struggles to make meaningful friendships?
How can I be free from comparing myself to others?
How do I get my needs met by ‘spending time with God’?
How does social media impact our self-image?

If you’ve ever asked yourself a question like this then meet other like-minded women at our Women’s Meetup. Happening once a month, we gather to discuss, learn and share practical ways to implement and live out our faith in Jesus as we tackle a common cultural issue each month. These afternoons host frank, honest discussions – so are not for the fainthearted! To help ladies feel free to disclose, we won't be admitting children at these gatherings (except babies in arms).

Their whole ethos is about strengthening communities through physical, emotional and spiritual challenges. Dave Hearn, the Director of Global Adventure, will be our expert guide and lead the weekend from Hagg Farm.

ACCOMMODATION
We'll be staying at the John Hunt Base, Hagg Farm, Peak District National Park, Snake Road, Bamford, Hope Valley, S33 0BJ

If you're a secret nibbler or think all the physical exertion will flat-line your sugar reserves, best to bring a few snacks with you.

SCHEDULE
You'll ideally want to get to the Peaks before 8pm, as that's when we'll serve dinner. The team will be there from 6pm, so if you can wangle an early leaving time then do make it up earlier and meet us there.
We're aiming to all leave the venue on Sunday at 2pm.

KIT
We'll have a better idea of what kit you need to bring with you when we know numbers - so will be in touch nearer the time. Needless to say, the minimum kit will include your hiking boots!

COST
Will be £65 and include accommodation plus meals (except the Saturday night). Booking deadline is Monday 8th May!

DON'T KNOW ANYONE?
Don't let this stop you from joining the weekend. After all, the whole point of it is for guys to connect. Drop us an email to let us know who you are and we'll make sure you connect with the team and do our best to make you feel at home.

Parenting under 12s: A survival guide

The problem with parenting is that normally by the time we get the hang of it – we’re redundant! Parenting is a mixture of highs and lows … and everything in between. It can bring some of life’s biggest joys, but also its greatest challenges. For most of us, a bit of encouragement and a reminder that we’re not alone can make a real difference.

WHO'S PRESENTING?

At Parentalk, best-selling author Rob Parsons and inspiring speaker Katharine Hill will present insights and top tips gathered from their combined experience of working alongside thousands of parents for over 30 years. The evening is accessible for parents of any faith or none.

ABOUT THE EVENING

This evening will help mums and dads to feel encouraged and empowered in the vital job that they do. You’ll laugh, maybe shed a tear or two and take away some practical ideas to help you be an even better parent. There's no group work involved – just come prepared to sit back, relax and enjoy! Read more here.

TICKETS £6

These are booked through the Parentalk website -- not the St Albans Vineyard.

Awaken Weekend Away

  • High Leigh Christian Conference Centre

Currently SOLD OUT!

God has something special in mind for every one of us. As we come of age, we're being intentional about stepping into maturity and fully awakening the calling God has for us - both as individuals and as a church. That's why we’re coming together in the spring to re-connect, deepen our relationships and have some fun together! All while we encourage one another to “press on and press in” to God.

We’ve invited Steve and Lyn Burnhope, Senior Pastors at Aylesbury Vineyard, as our special guest speakers. Steve and Lyn both became Christians when they were teenagers and over the years have served in a variety of roles helping to lead and build churches, including worship, teaching and children’s work. They both have degrees in Theology; Steve is currently completing a Theology PhD, so we are really looking forward to hearing what they bring.

This really is a unique opportunity to grow and learn together. We are expecting God to envision us to what He’s calling us to do, and equip us to do it! So join us in enlarging our expectations of who God is and what He’s able to do, and book your place at what promises to be a special weekend.

How easily do you accept responsibility for your own actions?
Do you respond to other people's needs immediately?

Marriage Preparation Course

  • Vineyard Church

This course is designed for engaged couples who want to build a strong and lasting relationship. It takes place over 5 Monday evenings, each beginning with supper, followed by a talk and an opportunity for discussion.

You’ll hear from other couples who’ve completed the course, explaining some of challenges they’ve faced in their marriage and the ways they’ve resolved these. You’ll only be asked to discuss topics between yourself and your partner; there is no group discussion or group work, and no requirement to disclose anything about your relationship. Rather, the course creates a space for you to address a range of topics that you’ll come across in your married life, such as, managing finances, resolving conflict, commitment, communication and the extended family. There will be a married ‘support couple’ if you wish to further discuss any topic in more depth.

The course is based on Christian ethics and values, but is suitable for anyone - with or without a Christian faith or church background. It is one of a number of courses developed by Relationship Central, run by Nicky & Sila Lee.

The course runs over Monday 28th February & 6th, 13th, 20th & 27th March 2017.

To help us cover costs we charge £40 per couple, which includes things like your workbook and dinner. Please make cheques out to Vineyard Christian Fellowship of St Albans. Please don't let finances get in the way of joining this course; just get in touch with our course leaders, Mark & Lucinda Kooi, through email or on 07854 586733.

The Alpha Course

  • The Vineyard Church

WHAT IS ALPHA?

The Alpha Course provides a unique opportunity for you to discuss and explore Christianity and life's big questions in an informal, fun and friendly environment. Whether you're an atheist or have never considered any kind of spiritual existence, Alpha is an open and safe place where you can find out more about Jesus and ask questions.

WHAT'S THE FORMAT?

Alpha runs over 10 Monday evenings, each evening beginning with a home cooked dinner where you can meet and get to know others who've joined the course. After that, there's a short easy-to-listen-to talk addressing a particular question relating to faith, religion, spirituality and life. It's not meant to be treated as a lecture but more as an opportunity for you to explore what you really think. After the talk we break into smaller discussion groups over coffee & cake. It's the perfect time for you to share your thoughts about what's been discussed that evening.

The whole purpose of the course is to provide a space where you can ask your questions about Jesus, about Christianity, the Church and Bible - so don't be shy!

WHEN'S THE NEXT COURSE?

Alpha begins again on Monday 30th January. You can expect a warm welcome each evening. Whether you're by yourself or coming with friends, we'll do our best to make you feel right at home. Lots of people want to try out the first evening before they commit to the whole course - which you are very welcome to do. The entire course, including dinner, is completely free.

** New for 2017 ** CALL TO PRAYER: An Hour of Worship & Intercession

Ever wondered what ‘spiritual gifts’ are for? The Bible tell us that the Holy Spirit gives ‘prophetic gifts’ in order to strengthen, encourage and comfort others. So it really isn’t a gift to make us look ‘spiritual’ but a gift to help us serve and build others up, so we as a Church can mature. We want to rely on the Holy Spirit to lead our prayers for the Church and the world, and have found the ‘prophetic gifts’ He gives commonly takes the form of receiving pictures and scriptures as we pray, impressing upon us a direction to pray. Never prayed like this before? Come along and join us at one of our Call to Prayer gatherings.

THIS SPRING WE’LL BE PRAYING AROUND THE WORD FOR 2017:
THAT WE AS A CHURCH COMMUNITY ARE ‘COMING OF AGE’.
WHAT DOES THAT LOOK LIKE AND MEAN FOR US?

Meet us in the new atrium café.

Come and enjoy a special night out with other couples at our Marriage Movie Night, where we'll be screening the Christian movie 'War Room'. Bring some spare change as we'll be running a cash bar with drinks and nibbles!

At the end of the night there will be the opportunity to join a 5 session 'War Room' short-term connect group, giving you and your husband/wife the opportunity to grow in your marriage. Please note this is not compulsory; you are free to simply enjoy the Movie Night.

It's free entry, but if you can sign up then this'll help us cater. Look forward to seeing you there.

Family Connect Group Taster Morning

Do you have young children?
Find it impossible to make an evening gathering whilst raising a family?
Is it hard to connect with friends when you’re always on ‘parent duty’?

Family Connect Groups are the perfect way for parents of young children to grow with God and connect with others. These take place one Saturday a month in the daytime. We start off with everyone worshipping together, then the dads will entertain with the kids while mums take some time for some bible study and prayer time by themselves; they then return to swap with the dads. Don’t discount yourself if you’re coming along without your partner or are a single parent - all parents are welcome!

Chido & Eka’s Family Connect Group is running a ‘taster’ morning on SAT 21st JAN. So take a couple of hours out and come along to experience what one of these group is like. Perhaps you’ll meet other families you’d like to form a regular group with; Chido & Eka will be able to guide you through the possibilities and answer any questions you may have.

Can't make this date but interested in joining a Family Connect Group? Drop Richard a line.

Christmas Wrapping

  • The Maltings

It's Christmas!

For 20 years we've set up shop in the Maltings Bandstand and offered to wrap festive shoppers' gifts for free - as well as handing out hundreds of free Christmas chocolates! It's a great way to connect with our local community and invite them to our festive celebrations.

Whether you possess excellent wrapping skills, are keen to get into the festive spirit, or you're just happy to give chocolates away all day long, you are guaranteed to see some seasonal smiles appear.

Santa hats and Christmas jumpers are optional, but encouraged.
