Women's Meetup - Changed Time & Venue

Instead of the usual Meetup gathering at Vineyard this month, we'll be joining the Christmas Wrapping event happening in the Maltings.

We'll be setting up stall at the Maltings Bandstand to wrap festive shoppers' gifts for free - as well as handing out hundreds of Christmas chocolates! It's a great way to connect with our local community and invite them to our festive celebrations.

So whether you possess excellent wrapping skills, are keen to get into the festive spirit, or you're just happy to give chocolates away all day long, come and join us!

Meetup is back to the usual time & venue in January 2018.

Women's Meetup

Am I the only person who struggles to make meaningful friendships?
How can I be free from comparing myself to others?
How do I get my needs met by ‘spending time with God’?
How does social media impact our self-image?

If you’ve ever asked yourself a question like this then meet other like-minded women at our Women’s Meetup. Happening once a month, we gather to discuss, learn and share practical ways to implement and live out our faith in Jesus as we tackle a common cultural issue each month. These mornings host frank, honest discussions – so are not for the fainthearted!

To help ladies feel free to disclose, we won't be admitting children at these gatherings (except babies in arms).

You don't have to book to come along - but it does help us cater if you let us know you're planning to.

The Alpha Course

The Alpha Course

WHAT IS ALPHA?

The Alpha Course provides a unique opportunity for you to discuss and explore Christianity and life's big questions in an informal, fun and friendly environment. Whether you're an atheist or have never considered any kind of spiritual existence, Alpha is an open and safe place where you can find out more about Jesus and ask questions.

WHAT'S THE FORMAT?

Alpha runs over 10 Monday evenings, each evening beginning with a home cooked dinner where you can meet and get to know others who've joined the course.

Then there's a short easy-to-listen-to talk addressing a particular question relating to faith, religion, spirituality and life. It's not meant to be treated as a lecture but more as an opportunity for you to explore what you really think.

After the talk we break into smaller discussion groups over coffee & cake. It's the perfect time for you to share your thoughts about what's been discussed that evening.

The whole purpose of the course is to provide a space where you can ask your questions about Jesus, about Christianity, the Church and Bible - so don't be shy!

WHEN'S THE NEXT COURSE?

Alpha begins again on Monday 22nd January 2018. You can expect a warm welcome each evening. Whether you're by yourself or coming with friends, we'll do our best to make you feel right at home.

Lots of people want to try out the first evening before they commit to the whole course - which you are very welcome to do. The entire course, including dinner, is completely free.

Breakthrough

Breakthrough

These evenings are an invitation to the whole church to worship & intercede (pray) for others - whether you’re a seasoned intercessor or a quiet introvert who’s never prayed out loud before. You’re not required to pray like anyone else, but to simply pray from your heart.

These short evenings are always uplifting, as we look to Holy Spirit to lead our prayers for the Church and for the world. We’ve found He commonly does this by impressing upon us pictures and scriptures that direct our prayers (what is commonly referred to as the ‘prophetic’). More exciting than making a list eh!

Come expectant!

Rising to the Call

Jesus commissioned his followers to “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” Matthew 28:18-20

How many of us find this challenging?
Are overwhelmed by it?
Or feel inadequate for the task?

Rising to the Call will give you the tools and confidence you need to respond to this commission. We’ll look at what the Bible has to say about it, the part the Holy Spirit plays in helping us to do it, including how we can use the gifting He’s given us, and how your unique presence in this world is essential to God’s redemptive plan for creation. This is an opportunity to learn with others, with a bit of ‘practice’! Join us to work out how individuals like us can play a part in bringing God’s Kingdom to the world around us. Topics include:

  • Prophecy & Hearing the Voice of God
  • Our Spiritual Authority
  • The Spiritual Battle
  • Doing Ministry like Jesus
  • Dream Interpretation
  • In the Market Place

Rising to the Call has already started this autumn, but you can sign up to the next one in spring 2018.

Rising to the Call is an Equip Course. You need to have completed Vineyard Introductions (formerly Part 1 & Part 2 of the Essential Course) to join this course.

Vineyard Introductions

Vineyard Introductions provides the essential foundation of our Equip training program. These 6 evenings will give you a good understanding of who we are, what we believe, and why we do everything we do.

New-ish here? Then join us for an essential introduction to the Vineyard Church! Hear where we’ve come from and where we’re placed in the UK Vineyard movement - and the wider Church generally. Discover our core beliefs and values, and our vision for the future. You’ll learn how we use the ‘Kingdom of God’ that Jesus so often talked about, as a lens to look at the world; explaining how it impacts and informs the way we read the Bible (including ‘spiritual gifts’), the way we pray for healing, the way we choose to live and the way we care and serve the community. It’ll also provide you with a great opportunity to meet our Senior Pastors Chris & Fliss, connect with the team here and meet more people from the church including other newcomers.

If you've recently completed our Essentials Part 1 course, then you only need to come along to the last 3 weeks of Vineyard Introductions (3rd, 10th, 17th October). Email the office to sign up!

Vineyard Introductions is an Equip Course.

Global Leadership Summit 2017: Day 2

Everyone has influence and the ability to create positive change. When you improve your leadership, you impact lives, churches, businesses, governments, schools and families. The GLS is a two-day event featuring world class speakers and live worship, that creates a unique blend of vision, inspiration and practical skills you can immediately apply in many different situations.

// A great mixture of speakers, both inspiring and practical. Sometimes leadership conferences can major on the inspirational, but don’t offer practical ways to take it back into your own situation. This conference was different! // Phil
// Sometimes leaders run out of fuel, direction and purpose. The GLS is an ideal cure. it challenged me, recharged me, reminded me of God’s purpose for my life and taught me many lessons through the teaching and interactions with the attendees. A life changing event. // Andrew
// I wish I had heard all this in my 20’s. But since God is not finished with me yet, better later than never. // Gill
// I have just completed two pages of feedback notes for our church and that is just headline stuff not detail. It is like a shot of adrenaline. // Mike
// As someone who experienced the GLS for the first time at Willow Creek (us) itself last year, this year’s UK experience was almost better. I expected it to be a poor imitation, but it really does recreate the atmosphere, spirituality and gospel enthusiasm of the main event. // Gordon

Fearfully & Wonderfully Made
Sep

Fearfully & Wonderfully Made

Each one of us is fearfully and wonderfully made in the image of God, and it’s His desire that we fully understand and experience this. God created us for intimacy with Himself, enjoy connection with others, and to experience the freedom of being ourselves.

However, in this world we can feel disconnected, ashamed and alone. Instead of being God-conscious where we rest in the knowledge that our identity is safe and splendid, we tend to lean towards being self-conscious where we protect or pretend our identity. This leads us to loose sight of God’s glory and therefore our true worth as His image bearers.

God wants to restore all this to us, so that as His sons and daughters we joyfully reveal His nature to the world as we live freely ourselves. Each member of the Trinity is involved in helping us to understand and experience this. This 6 session course will help you to engage with, and restore your relationship to, all members of the Trinity -- so that you would know you are fearfully & wonderfully made in the image of God.

We especially recommend this course to Connect Group Leaders as further training to your pastoral skills.

Fearfully & Wonderfully Made has already started this autumn, but you can find out about similar courses like Restore, that are starting in spring 2018.

Family Connect Group Taster Morning

Do you have young children?
Find it impossible to get out in the evenings?
Or hard to connect with friends when you’re always on ‘parent duty’?

Family Connect Groups are the perfect way for parents of young children to grow with God and connect with others.

These take place one Saturday a month in the daytime. We start off with everyone worshiping together, then the dads will entertain with the kids while mums take some time for some bible study and prayer time by themselves; they then return to swap with the dads. Don’t discount yourself if you’re coming along without your partner or are a single parent - all parents are welcome!

Chido & Eka’s Family Connect Group is running a ‘taster’ morning this autumn. So take a couple of hours out and come along to experience what one of these group is like.

Can't make this date but interested in joining a Family Connect Group? Drop Richard a line.

Treasure Hunt

Every man & woman is invited to come and 'live brave' as we venture out onto the streets to pray for those God directs us towards.

We'll begin the day with some bacon rolls at Vineyard before we pray together, asking God to give us 'treasure' directions in who to pray for when we're out & about in the city centre.

You don't have to be an extrovert or a 'prayer warrior' to join in with this day. We'll pair you up with others so you won't be on your own. Just come expectant to see God heal and touch people's hearts and lives.

Let's see what great and wonderful things God does as we pray for His blessing and healing on members of our local community in St Albans.

An evening when we abandon our usual 'church service' structure and have an extended time of pure worship. We'll simply be creating space to go where God leads us.

Join us to pour out our adoration and rest in His presence, with worship led by Joe Blustin and Samuel Lane.

No need to book, just turn up on the night.

Parenting Workshop: Love Languages

Equip courses play an essential part in 'discipleship' here at the Vineyard. The Equip program offers a wide selection of free short courses and workshops, ranging from theological and biblical study to practical training. All Equip programs are designed to empower and encourage you; giving you wisdom, vision and confidence as you respond to God's call.

We are running a series of parenting workshops this summer! These aim to not only equip you with helpful info and ideas, but allow you to exchange experiences, relate what you or others have learned - and more importantly, have a 'night off' and a bit of fun!

Each Tuesday evening will start with a short talk, given by different people within Vineyard, and continue with either a discussion forum or breakout sessions. There’ll also be prayer ministry available at the end of each week.

WEEK 1 -- 6th June --- The No. 1 Key to Parenting
WEEK 2 -- 13th June --- Love Languages
WEEK 3 -- 20th June --- Spiritual Foundations For Your Child: A day by day journey
WEEK 4 -- 27th June --- Choose from either
Overcoming Challenges as a Single Parent or Experiences from Foster / Adoptive Parents
WEEK 5 -- 4th July --- Internet Safety
WEEK 6 -- 11th July --- Let’s Talk About Sex

All the workshops in this Equip series are completely free - so book onto as many as you like!

Women's Weekend at Home

Does the thought of a room full of women fill you with comfort? Consume you with excitement? Make you nervous? Inspires panic?! Jesus calls us to be one in Spirit and in purpose. But what does that look like for us here at Vineyard - women of different demographics, attitudes & lifestyles?

Our Weekend at Home will be structured around worship, talks, interviews and discussions as we celebrate the diverse characters of women and look to Jesus to form our collective identity as his Church.

We’ll also be hosting workshops, from topics like ‘Confidence in the
Workplace’ to ‘Creative Journaling’, and offer plenty of activities throughout the day that you can take or leave.

Don’t know many women here? There’ll be a whole team of hosts that are ready to help you plug in. So don’t miss this unique opportunity to meet and connect with other like-minded women at what promises to be a very special weekend.

Men and Mountains

  • John Hunt Base, Hagg Farm, Peak District National Park (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Calling all men! Join some of the Vineyard guys for a weekend away in the stunning Peak District when we'll team up with Global Adventure. Their whole ethos is about strengthening communities through physical, emotional and spiritual challenges. Dave Hearn, the Director of Global Adventure, will be our expert guide and lead the weekend from Hagg Farm.

ACCOMMODATION
We'll be staying at the John Hunt Base, Hagg Farm, Peak District National Park, Snake Road, Bamford, Hope Valley, S33 0BJ
The bunk house only accommodates 18 guys, so it's first-come, first-served!

TRANSPORT
Is transport an issue? Drop us an email and we'll hook you up with some like-minded guys who you can hitch a lift from. In fact, we'd encourage every guy to go green and help save the planet by seeing who they can travel with - plus splitting petrol will no doubt work out cheaper for everyone.

FOOD
Friday night dinner will be provided on camp when you arrive, plus breakfast for both the Sat & Sun morning. We're likely to either head to a local pub on the Saturday night, or if the weather's kind, light a BBQ -- both of which will mean you'll need to bring some ££ cash with you. If you're a secret nibbler or think all the physical exertion will flat-line your sugar reserves, best to bring a few snacks with you.

SCHEDULE
You'll ideally want to get to the Peaks before 8pm, as that's when we'll serve dinner. The team will be there from 6pm, so if you can wangle an early leaving time then do make it up earlier and meet us there.
We're aiming to all leave the venue on Sunday at 2pm.

KIT
We'll have a better idea of what kit you need to bring with you when we know numbers - so will be in touch nearer the time. Needless to say, the minimum kit will include your hiking boots!

COST
Will be £65 and include accommodation plus meals (except the Saturday night). Booking deadline is Monday 8th May!

DON'T KNOW ANYONE?
Don't let this stop you from joining the weekend. After all, the whole point of it is for guys to connect. Drop us an email to let us know who you are and we'll make sure you connect with the team and do our best to make you feel at home.

Parenting under 12s: A survival guide

The problem with parenting is that normally by the time we get the hang of it – we’re redundant! Parenting is a mixture of highs and lows … and everything in between. It can bring some of life’s biggest joys, but also its greatest challenges. For most of us, a bit of encouragement and a reminder that we’re not alone can make a real difference.

WHO'S PRESENTING?

At Parentalk, best-selling author Rob Parsons and inspiring speaker Katharine Hill will present insights and top tips gathered from their combined experience of working alongside thousands of parents for over 30 years. The evening is accessible for parents of any faith or none.

ABOUT THE EVENING

This evening will help mums and dads to feel encouraged and empowered in the vital job that they do. You’ll laugh, maybe shed a tear or two and take away some practical ideas to help you be an even better parent. There's no group work involved – just come prepared to sit back, relax and enjoy! Read more here.

TICKETS £6

These are booked through the Parentalk website -- not the St Albans Vineyard.
Doors open at 6.45pm for a 7.30pm start.
